I do own the Shafir book, very good on early Zionism, conquest of labor and conquest of land doctrine (which failed, at least the labor part), and the formation of Hashomer, Jewish guard unit in Palestine, precursor to Hanagah. One of Shafir’s tidbit points about Hashomer is that they dressed like Arabs, riding around on horses in headscarves protecting Zionist colonies.
